Lima, Mar. 05 (ANDINA). The Colca Valley in southern Peru's Arequipa region would receive some 4,000 tourists during the Easter holidays in early April, said Oscar Ramos, head of the Colca Autonomous Authority.
Ramos told Andina news agency that he is coordinating efforts with local authorities to offer visitors a pleasant stay on this date.
The 14 districts of the valley celebrate these holidays with great faith and realism, from Palm Sunday to Easter Sunday.
The rural communities often take part in processions and build religious altars, featuring many of their products such as corn, potato, quinoa, bread, apple, pear and peach.
These altars are installed in the main squares of each district. Tourists also enjoy visiting the local churches that date from the colonial era.
Villavicencio said that, regardless of the religious motivation of the tourists, they also visit the Condor Cross and view the magnificent Andean condors, as well as the thermal baths of La Calera in Colca.
"We will promote activities at Easter through travel agents and our website," he said.
